Baggage is a short film written and directed by Hamid Bahrami, set in a dystopian hotel where everything changes once a man with a mysterious red suitcase arrives. Filmed at Ghazali Cinema Town, I had the honor of working alongside Hamid Reza Fakhri as the scenic designer. After months of collaborating with the director, production managers, and the rest of the team, we reached a creative agreement and began filming.
We designed the set based on the red baggage which is the key element of this film. There are touches of red paint in the set. This hotel doesn't have a time. Nothing makes sense here. There are telephones, but the source of light are candels. They are in and island at nowhere. Room numbers are written on the key chains in morse code. In the entrance there is a board on which we can see numerous signs showing forbidden things at this place. e.g. hamburger!
Challenges
Challenges included completing the entire shoot within a week, which led to sleep deprivation for everyone involved. One particularly tricky task was creating erasable fog effects on large windows and painting the floor in a checkered pattern with removable paint while ensuring the location could be restored to its original state. Additionally, customizing most of the film's accessories within a limited budget, including the key chains, dollar bills, mop and broom and the sign board.
